All compulsory training courses
are funded through the organisation or an outside agency, e.g. Sure
Start. These include First Aid, Child Protection, Fire safety and Food
Hygiene. Staff receive paid time off work to attend courses.
The following training courses are compulsory for all of our childcare staff:

Additional training is undertaken by staff in relation to the job they carry out:
- Chomp (dental hygiene and food),
- Creative Play,
- Aspergers,
- Makaton for Babies,
- Science through Water Play,
- Nursery Narrative,
- Introduction to Speech Therapy,
- Portage Workshops,
- Supporting Babies
- Child Development 0 -3 years,
- Observing Babies and Young Children,
- Schematic Development,
- Behaviour Management,
- SEN 1, 2 &3,
- Assertiveness,
- Developing Observation Skills,
- Thinking Skills
- Disability Equality Training.
Supervisory and Management staff receive tailored training designed to develop Management Skills and Team Building.
We welcome Volunteers, Student
Placements and Modern Apprentices in all our settings. These staff
members are not included in our strict child/staff ratios.
All staff undergo an annual
appraisal which gives everyone a opportunity to ‘step back’
and review the past year and plan for the future. This includes setting
personal targets and completing a personal training plan. Regular
shorter meetings are held throughout the year so staff can be updated
on their performance.
RASCALS has a open door policy where any member of staff can talk to a Manager or Director in private.
